The transmission completely failed with no warning. The truck's rmp's would go up however, the truck was not gaining speed only losing speed, we are very lucky that no one came over the hill, or this would have caused a major wreck. He immediately got in his vehicle and started it and pulled the car off of the man. I don't tow anything with the vehicle and it isn't abused. . My overdrive light was blinking on and off and I later found out the entire transmission needed to be rebuilt. This transmission unit has been inspected, tested and ready to ship.
Cruise control was active, motor raced, but transmission was in neutral. I don't know what to do the dealership is no help at all. Truck is now at aamco with transmission being rebuilt. There are 14 choices for the 2002 Ford F-150 Pickup Transmission Assembly!!! That's the reason I want to cancel the purchase of this car. When the speedometer fell back down to zero I attempted to take off again. This truck was never overloaded and never pulled a trailer. The car was locked and parked at the time.
I was told the overdrive clutch burned up and the direct drive pak burned up. The truck is a F150 harley davidson edition. A few months after I brought the truck it started giving me problems. I don't understand why there can not be a recall in regards to this problem. Must be something wrong with Ford rear. I drove to work 15 miles in second gear, called a tow truck and had it towed to lakeland Ford. This has happened a total of four times.
In my case there were three separate occurrences where my spark plugs shot out of my engine. So now I am very gunshy naturally everytime I drive it. This vehicle has the towing package in it so this problem should not have happened. Their warranty policy is a fraud they do not keep up with it. We then had the truck taken to the dealership.
Also on this same vehicle my transmission blew at 39,000 miles when the warranty ran out at 36,000 naturally I was told there was nothing they could do. At 85 mph, I turned off the ignition. I've been reading online from several people who have had this same problem. To properly correct this problem it would cost a small fortune and to sell it as is who will buy it. Recall notice received on the cruise control initial failure cruise control on.
I actually thought I blew a tire. This second time was roughly 2 yrs ago. They are now tearing the transmission apart. I am tired of this situation. This transmission unit includes a transmission case, valve body, tail shaft and housing, torque converter automatic only , and all internal lubricated parts. So again I bought a new plug and coil pack and luckily it threaded back in again.
The next time it happened while my same friend was driving my truck to his house but this time it was a different plug and we weren't so lucky threading it back in. This transmission unit has been inspected, tested and ready to ship. The first time was at around 45K mi. I had to have a new transmission installed at a dealership. It now has roughly 94,000 miles on it. Confirmation turned cruise control on and hit maintain speed button.
Upon trying to start the vehicle again the battery would be completely dead. Turned off ignition again and cruised to the left side of the road. The dates are all approximate along with the mileage when they occurred. I have tried talking to them plenty of times. The gasket had to be replaced, and the harness wiring had to be replaced also. The threads were stripped out so we helicoiled it back in ourselves and it is still there today. So we went and bought a new plug and coil pack and threaded it back in and believe it or not it stayed there and still is there today.

Vehicle started accelerating as before. I tried talking to the dealership but they were no help at all. The first time it happened on the highway cruising along about 70 mph. Engaged maintain speed button vehicle started accelerating. Punched all of the cruise control buttons and tapped the brakes cruise control turned off.
